Scariest/weirdest/most disturbing videogame enemies/things?

Post by Nospike »

What the title says. What have you found the scariest in your gaming life?
Not including creepypastas because they are pretty much always fake. We're talking about canon here.
As for me, it was definitely Giygas from Earthbound. Dear god, that was one really damn weird sight. And it left me sleepless for many nights.
Another ones were the slimes from Duke3D and "Ghosts" + Ruins of Alph from the 2nd gen Pokémon games.

Headcrabs of all forms from the Half-Life series.

Just thinking about what they do to people -- let alone the fact that their host is pretty much still alive during it all. Yeah, pretty horrific.

Adding to the list, both from Cave Story:

The Doctor (as the "Undead Core")

Ballos (Every form after his first -- as you damage him, look closely at his face, then think about the little text stories you read as you went along that level, which tell about who Ballos was and what happened to him and his people. Have fun with that.)

1.) The fan made pokemon creepypasta games.

2.) The Pirate Cove game. ('I want your skin!' Brrrr!)

3.) I Have no Mouth and I Must Scream, all of it.
What you really need, not what you think you ought to want.

Yeah, Cave Story! Some disturbing stuff, but the storytelling and gameplay are done so well.

Funnily enough, the SkiFree monster was one of mine too.

On a Keen note, definitely the Gargs from K1.

I haven't played all the way through Amnesia. Seems to be the problem when I buy games in bulk through Humble Bundle, as I buy it for certain ones.

For me it'd be that point in F.E.A.R. when you turn around to climb down a ladder and Alma is right behind you at the top of the ladder.

Actually even worse is the drunken/druggy/dream world in Max Payne, with screams of your family getting murdered and being unable to stop it.

Hell you're right, I forgot that one. The music, the weird weird stuff that happens there... Max Payne's nightmares are it.

Any Wolf3D boss has their own level of scaryness (since they chase you), and yeah the snow monster from SkiFree.

I'd say one of the scairest moments in gaming is when I was playing the Half Life 2 demo (not Lost Coast, the other one) and I was playing Ravenholm. That last part at the end where the running head crabs come clmbing up that pole made me so paranoid for the rest of the night. That's when I knew why I don't like to play horror games (not that HL2 is a horror game, but that level dabbled in it a bit).

Excluding the adrenalin rush I get from Slender...

Possibly the flood from halo 1-2

Definitely the SA-X from Metroid Fusion. I wasn't that old when I first played that game, and for a gameboy advance game that thing could scare the :barf out of me. The thing stalked you throughout the game and could appear at any time. It could kill you in one or two hits.

That game SLENDER (now subtitled, The Eight Pages) was terrifying. There's a video on YouTube of me screaming my lungs out from it.

System Shock 2 definitely gave me a few scares, the Cherubs from DOOM 3 and fetus monsters from Dead Space were unsettling.

I remember once, I was playing Jedi Knight with sound effects turned off but the music turned on. I was surprised by an enemy at the exact moment that the music reached a crescendo and felt my heart nearly leap up my throat. Basically, I think stuff involving children and suspenseful music are those that really get to me.
