After about a week I finally have internet back up (due to Irma my isp lost power on the station serving the area) Thankfully that's one of the only thing affected here, much worse farther south.

Sorry, should have specified: I'm up in the Carolina's. We had some heavy rain and wind but not remotely as bad as Texas and Florida. There were several relatives coming up from FL to stay with us, so that's good at least.

My old man during his lifetime was dumb enough to believe that his social security payment (The Disability Support Pension) was a lottery ticket that kept winning, and yes he did buy lottery tickets but never won anything. he kept believing his was entitled to fortnightly payment increases, honestly can you think of what strain this would have to Australian Taxpayers?, centrelink payment rises have to be budgeted and costed by the Federal Treasury, it is not free money despite having used to know some other DSP recipient in the past (not my father) he too was foolish enough to believe everything he was given including his pension to be free money when again it is taxes who were paying him, every time a payment is increased, it takes absolutely no time at all for the cost of living to go up. imagine a severely disabled man who can't manage money or to support himself via working and lives in government care, whenever his pension goes up so does his rent which leaves very little or no money at all for his care, the minimum wage in Australia is a excessive high of A$18.29 p/h, thanks a lot ACTU!, the unions are to blame for our high standard of living, and to be more ludicrous, the same unions want the minimum raised to A$40-$60 p/h, do they even have any idea what this would already do the already struggling working class? this would do so much damage to the point where it would be a repeat of the 1970s when the unions had control of everything including the government, if Bill Shorten expects to be the next Prime Minister he should give Australians a guarantee that he will not bow to the ridiculous demand of the unions including the ACTU given the fact he is a former member of the ACTU!
