Commander Keen: The Movie?!

Post by GalaxyEyesPhotonDragon »

Ok, so I keep playing around with the thought of a Commander Keen movie. Like an actual movie in theaters. Given the right circumstances, I think it would... could work.

Not live action though, lord heavens no please anything but that.

But anyone else thought of this? What ideas do you have?

Personally I think the first two episodes should be one movie, then the third should be one whole movie, the Goodbye Galaxy episodes should be a trilogy and then a The Universe is Toast trilogy (based on the one from this community, of course. :D )

And Levellass should be in charge of the writing (for guaranteed hilarity.)

I think James Gunn should be the director of a Commander Keen movie. He directed Guardians of the Galaxy and btw he have been doing porno movies before that (that's some fun trivia for the Cuck-Porn thread). Guardians is a classic. It's the perfect example of a fun summer blockbuster movie - it's fun, spectacular, full of references, a lot of action and so on.

Story-wise, I don't think the stories of the original keens should be used as they are. They can be used as a basis for a new story, but a lot more needs to be added. Combining keens is a must for a full length movie.

Like I do believe it should begin on Earth, showing who Billy Blaze is, his ordinary daily life and show some of his friends that are never shown in the game. Up until a point where Mortimer is involved. He could be the mean kid in the class or something. Keen suspects him and wants to figure out to what he is up to. Then showing his not so ordinary daily life as a genius. Moving on towards his garage, his spaceship that he is building. After that and more, the action should translate toward Mars, where he will find the pogo stick, his pet spot etc. And so on and so forth.

Vorticons, Galaxy, and TUIT is a trilogy.
Secret of the Oracle, Armageddon machine, and Aliens Ate My Babysitter is not a trilogy. They are parts in the 3-act structure.

Keen Dreams can be a short, independent art film.

It's already been made. https://youtu.be/7giVC13Hb3Y :dopefish

If the movies closely follow the games, than yeah, I think all the episodes should be combined. It would be really fun trying to piece together all the episodes into one seamless story. Otherwise you'd have to do the ol' Hollywood Stretch-It-Out-Add-Filler-Help-Send-More-Content in order to make a full length movie. That being the case, I think a movie that DOESN'T follow the games (for the story) is a better idea. I agree with wiivn on that. Maybe a few references and easter eggs here and there.

It could be pretty cool. Maybe a bit of focus on Imagination and Transformation Billy Blaze -> Commander Keen. A life-size prop of the BwB Megarocket... amazing 80s special effects.

It has in fact been done a few times. All live action.

I was in fact for a short time part of a group pushing an animated Keen movie in the form of the usual kid-friendly summer movie. By the time things drifted apart the story involved Keen and a random schoolgirl (For wacky 'girls are icky' hijinks!) blasting off to the planet Nebulon IX to track down Mortimer's universal toaster. Quite a bit was fleshed out and there are some snippets of script. The movie climaxes with Keen and Mortimer debating who is or is not a 'poop head' (8 years old remember.) when annoying schoolgirl pushes the Big Red Button You're Not Supposed To Touch. (This Means YOU Molly!)

Aaah so much has been planned, yet so little achieved. It's like Halo 3.

That would've been epic. I'd fund it.

The idea of it starting off before even the 1st Keen is also a good idea, I mean he should have more of an introduction, one where we can see all that lead up to him becoming Commander Keen. and a re-imagining with references to the games' storyline can also be pretty good.

If it's kid friendly (which it should be. At least PG-rated) then I'm wondering if Wolfenstein should be referenced at all. (Probably not as much as I'd want it to)

Keen DOES have a movie though. It's called Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius.

Let me guess: She ends up being the designated love interest

I thought that was the Dexter's Laboratory movie.

"Designated" means they were selected (by the writer) to be the love interest before the movie even starts.

So long as it's not a gritty reboot comic book movie origin story. (The smouldering remains of a house are soaked by torrential rain. A sobbing child is briefly lit up by the lightning, surrounded by soup cans and a busted vacuum cleaner, kneeling over his dead parents. Slowly he stands up, picks up his brother's football helmet, dislodging the severed head within, takes a swig of hard liquor and stares up at the sky 'Mortimer!' he growls. Pan away, cue title 'COMMANDER KEEN')

Oh HECK no, the entire movie is about two 8-year-old kids, they hate each other and she's always messing stuff up. It was more Dee Dee and Dexter than... uh... what's a movie with two kids dating?

I dunno but blegh.

But yeah no love interests. Just a battle of two intellects and the goofy schoolgirl in the middle. Would be excellent.

I know. It's just an annoying trope when it comes to movies like that.

I think it's called 'toy shipping' or somesuch. I don't see exactly what you're aiming at, why do it? Kids don't want to see mushy stuff and adults certainly don't (or shouldn't) enjoy seeing kids pair up. It's like the 'We must have an annoying kid character sidekick because that's what kids like!' trope. No, kids HATE annoying kids.

I'm not saying we should do it. I'm not okay with it either I just assumed that's what you were going with, because it's a common trope. You're taking it the wrong way!

No no, you are taking it the wrong way. In that comment I am asking a rhetorical question of all the many, many script writers I will never be able to talk to. Like 'Did the world REALLY need another Fantastic Four movie?'
