Hullo. New here.

Post by nanomekia »

Exactly what it says on the tin.

Hullo, I'm Kai, you may call me that if you wish, I've enjoyed the Keen series since I was a wee bub *mumble, grumble* years ago and only just recently discovered modding was a Thing. I'd like to eventually crack on with a mod of my own, but being as the only part of game creation I have any skill in is the story-writing bit, that may take a while. In the meantime I plan on playing a few of this fine community's offerings.

(Assuming I can get them to work anyway - I tend to be a derp.)

Good to meet y'all.

Hello Kai! Glad to meet you. Commander Keen is a game I have also loved since I was a kid, and I was glad to find out that I was not the only person who was a big fan. I've been on here for more than a year and it's a great community.

Good to meet you as well, mate!

It is very nice indeed to find a conglomerate of other fans. This is something that wouldn't have been possible back in those days and for that I must praise the internets. (Though I also wonder what it might have been like to have such a large and involved fan group then? Intriguing, that's for sure.)

I've been reading through the forums for a bit now and yes, everyone seems a pleasant bunch! I think I'll like it here.

Hey there, Kai!

The first step to modding Keen is playing all the mods! With a little push, a compass for direction, and tips that trickle down from the Knowledgables, you can be the bestest keener ever! Oh, and backups.

WAIT. ARE YOU A SPAM BOT?

Hullo mate!

Hahah yeah, I don't even want to try to start till I've played a few. And I'm pretty good about backing things up, though I still need to get a second external hard drive to make it extra redundant.

UM UM UM I DON'T KNOW AM I A SPAM BOT? I hope not. I don't like spam.

Hey, welcome. If you have trouble getting any of the mods to run you can ask here or on the #PCKF channel on Foonetic.

Thanks very much guys!

Ah yes, the good old Eye Arr Sees. Luckily I'm usually on my IRC chan anyway so that oughtn't be any trouble! I'll keep it in mind.

Hey there,
I'm pretty certain that you've already came across this treasure chamber over here:

http://www.shikadi.net/keenwiki/Galaxy_Mods

There are also some fine modding tutorials for beginners and even for experienced Modders.
That being said, Welcome to PCKF!

Yes, I have found that there secret level of goodness! ;)

Thanks for the welcome, and I must know: what exactly is your icon meant to say? I'm reading it as XEAT and am not sure if that's right (and if it is, then I clearly have no idea what it means - just put me down for "dumb as a dopefish"... *chuckles*)

I think the upward curve on the slash on the first letter indicates it's an "N", thus making the sign read "NEAT", a reference to "this is neat".
I flermmed the plootash just like you asked.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to explore the wiki. There's a lot of cool facts you might learn about the game and characters.
(I also recommend reading Masters of Doom, which is a book that talks about the keen developers and the history of id software. It briefly talks about how Commander Keen was made. Probably the best book about video games in my opinion.)

keenmaster: I think you're right about that one. Dopefish it is then. :dopefish

ScarletFlame: already read through the whole wiki, actually! (It was looking at the various mod pages that led me here.) It's been a blast finding out so much stuff I never knew as a wee bub, viva la internet.

A book eh? I must find this book.
