Dropbox - aka warning for WinXP users
Dropbox - aka warning for WinXP users
On the August 29th Windows XP will no longer support dropbox. It's okay, but now the black soup:
Since I use WinXP, that's why I'll have to upload my Keen mods somewhere else as well as my hungarian translations, and other stuff.
(This will affect Levellass, too - mainly.)
That's all I wanted to say.
Now I'm out.

Yeah, piece of cake!
Depending on you HDD data space you could think about using a Virtual Machine (VM) within XP. from there you could still manage your Dropbox traffic.
To get things done there are only three simple steps to do:
Puppy OS and Parted Magic should work with dropbox. I haven't tested it yet, but there is nothing to be said against it.
To get things done there are only three simple steps to do:
- Download a VM. For beginners I recommend using Virtual Box. download here: virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads
- Get an alternative OS. this could be anything like Win7-Win10, Mac OS X, Solaris or any kind of Linux derivatives.
For your personal purpose I recommend using a lightweight and easy to use Linux version. there are many more options, but one of these should work for you.- Lubuntu: lubuntu.net
(requires 512 MB RAM, 4 GB free space, can be tweaked to look like XP, Hungarian language package included) - Parted Magic: partedmagic.com/downloads
(requires only 0.5 GB free space, Live-System, there is a free version for students available, only english) - Puppy OS: puppylinux.org/wikka/PuppyVersionIndex
(requires only 128 MB RAM, 0.2 GB free space, Hungarian versions available, I don't know much about it)
- Lubuntu: lubuntu.net
- Install Virtual Box. to do so follow this Hungarian tutorial: youtube.com/watch?v=1R7dN_OnhAo (but use the download Linux OS instead of Win10).

If you aren't satisfied with this provided solution over there, you could also think about switching to an alternative uploading service in place of Dropbox.

You might haven't noticed it yet, but Linux is by far the dominating market leader when it comes to mobile devices like smartphones or tablets (share in the market with over 80%).
When it comes to an everyday usage - and I presume you're getting in touch with some of those things from time to time - Google and Facebook are running Linux.
Also most internet hosting companies ran Linux distributions on their web servers (Windows only reaches 10% in this sector in 2010).
Round about 98% of the fastest Supercomputers run some variant of Linux.
And there is even a good chance, that your Microwave is running Linux as well.
...but when it comes to private desktop usage, I guess you are right and Microsoft can be called the top dog.
Let's put numbers and statistics away. The only strange people I know are such who are running an emulation of an outdated operating system and still trying to save the universe with only a raygun and a pogostick.

At the computer shop where I work we regularly refurbish XP machines since we have industrial customers who run software that doesn't work on newer versions of Windows.
Right now I'm refurbishing a Core 2 Quad machine with 3 GB of RAM, and it's screaming fast.

Nope, here's the process:
-Dedust fans, power supply, and motherboard
-Wipe hard drive.
-Reinstall Windows XP (from a disk which already has SP3 on it)
-Change theme to Classic, or anything but the default "clown" theme.
-Updates. Takes a while, but less time than Windows 7, believe it or not.
-Install Google Chrome, then delete all Internet Explorer shortcuts.
-Send it out the door!

I have done this a number of times as well a.
not in a business related sense, but for family, friends and people who got in touch with me (because having this "skill" spreads like wildfire).

"Sure! I can take a look."- backing up
- unscrewing
- getting rid of dust (mostly a chunk of dust as wide as a finger)
- wipe + reinstall
- customize to classic
- install opera, thunderbird, vlc etc...
- disable some sedated windows stuff
