Re: OFF TOPIC THREAD: Where derailing the thread is impossible!
I co-host a show on my local community radio station and took Mort Day as a chance to push Keen on a whole load of new people. (By which I mean all three of our listeners.) I only had around 45 minutes to write, record, and edit the entire thing so I didn't have a chance to re-record my slightly-too-fast vocals, but I'll share the result here anyway: http://3bbrfm.org.au/drive/2017/03/15/d ... on-pi-day/
I figured CG would be the most accessible way to get people to try Keen out. I'm curious to know what other people suggest when telling those not in the know about Keen.

Re: OFF TOPIC THREAD: Where derailing the thread is impossible!
CG is a no no no. No offense to the author of Commander Genius, but if I want to show someone Keen, CG will be the last thing I would show. After all those years, the gameplay is still far from original (grabbing ledge is OMG) and doesn't feel right, the interface and wrist menu are ugly and not intuitive, and full of useless options and whatnot, resolution problems, and more and more... I'd rather prepare D-Fend Reloaded graphical environment with some or all Keens and some mods in it.Keening_Product wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2017 12:53I figured CG would be the most accessible way to get people to try Keen out. Omnispeak.
If you must insist on running native. Whatever happened to just using DOSBox?

I flermmed the plootash just like you asked.
Re: OFF TOPIC THREAD: Where derailing the thread is impossible!
Tossing keen exe file over the DOSbox icon would work, but it will not keep the correct aspect ratio and will run at only 3000 cycles. Again, the most simple way of doing it correctly is with graphical environment such as D-Fend Reloaded. You just check the check-box to keep the correct aspect ratio and toss some more cycles and it will remember that in the future. Omnispeak is neat, but still doesn't support mods.keenmaster486 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2017 19:30 Omnispeak.

Re: OFF TOPIC THREAD: Where derailing the thread is impossible!
Good idea.
Edit: Windows 10 tries to block Omnispeak from running, which is likely to turn people off trying that route.
I do have advice on how to play using DOSBox at that link, which I mention in the pod. Not sure how everyone missed that. 3BBR FM's audience is predominantly not tech-literate people. Basic computer repair shops do well when running sponsorships with us haha. If the listener can remember DOS, it's likely they have heard of Keen before. I also had to grab people in a very short period of time, and asking them to sit at a PC when they're likely not near one is a missed opportunity. CG is, conveniently, on mobile platforms.keenmaster486 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2017 19:30 If you must insist on running native. Whatever happened to just using DOSBox?
When I'm introducing friends to the game I use DOSBox because I'm actually there to show them how to use it.

I'm with Win10 and it is not trying to block it.Keening_Product wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2017 20:07Edit: Windows 10 tries to block Omnispeak from running, which is likely to turn people off trying that route.

If DOSBox, I would provide a download with Keen included and a custom DOSBox config file with the correct aspect ratio settings etc.

Have you completely disabled Defender and Smart Screen Filter? Because that's what was claiming it was a risky file.Roobar wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2017 20:46I'm with Win10 and it is not trying to block it.Keening_Product wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2017 20:07Edit: Windows 10 tries to block Omnispeak from running, which is likely to turn people off trying that route.

Defender is on, "smart" filter is off.
