keen dream ported

Post by dopefishing »

as some of you may know, keen dreams is now ported. i would like to give keys to everyone here that votes for it, but i think that would be unfair to the people that contributed. anyone think that?

I just checked IndieGameStand and there is apparently only a Linux build uploaded...

Finally Linux begins to approach the glory that is DOS gaming at its best.

The site now says all platforms, but it's neat to see the Linux build come out first.

Everything's coming up Tuxhouse!

Um no, there WAS a Windows build there before but it seems to have disappeared.

Strange, seemed to be there when I looked. I didn't download though.

Do you mean Steam keys? That's a nice gesture, but would Valve even allow that? Every key could be considered a potential lost sale. Taking it to the extreme, if you could just give everyone a key you'd basically have a game hosted for free on Steam, and Valve is in the business to earn money. :)

GTA and GTA2 are freeware games hosted on Steam, but you can only add those to your library by buying the GTA bundle. Hmmm, actually I just checked, and it doesn't seem like Steam is hosting them anymore, which only strengthens my point.

Valve do allow that, though as Keen Dreams is not yet on Steam, the point is moot for the moment.

I'm not sure what happened to the windows build: it certainly was available. PM/email me (david@ingeniumdigital.com) if you still can't get it. (It might take me a little while to answer over the next week or so, though).

Basically, the ported versions (windows/linux) have the music menu replaced with a graphics menu, with EGA/CGA toggle, fullscreen/windowed and aspect ratio options. Apart from a couple of other minor internal differences, the game should play exactly the same as the DOS version.
